Women’s Circus board, staff and members support

Women’s Circus board, staff and members support a YES vote for a First Nations Voice to Parliament, accepting the invitation offered in the Uluru Statement from the Heart for Voice, Treaty and Truth.

At Women’s Circus we are privileged to meet, train and create on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation. We recognise and pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their continuing connection to land, waters, communities, and culture.

This connection has been ongoing for over 65,000 years, a fact not yet recognised in Australia’s 122-year-old Constitution. We welcome the opportunity to change this by voting YES in the upcoming referendum.

We stand by our organisation’s values of care, pride, justice and equity. We believe that by listening to First Nations Peoples about the issues affecting their lives and communities, governments will make better decisions. Supporting a First Nations Voice to Parliament has the capacity to create a better future.

With respect to those who hold alternate perspectives than our own, a survey of our board, staff and members found a majority support the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in the Australian Constitution, and a Voice to Parliament, with a YES vote.

Please respect First Nations Peoples and communities during this time, taking care and ensuring their wellbeing with respectful behaviour and comments.

Women's Circus is hosting an information session on the upcoming referendum this Sunday 24 September 2:30pm at the Drill Hall. This session will be facilitated by Naarm Law Student on Voice, a collective of law students from the University of Melbourne offering free educational sessions on the upcoming referendum.

Delivered will be a 30 minute neutral, fact-based and informative "explainer" session, aimed at ensuring people understand what exactly they are voting on. This will be followed by up to 15 minutes of questions.

We hope you can join us for this information session. Voting is compulsory, and it's important to get informed.

🌀Experimental Aerials 6:30-8:30pm. You’ll try all sorts of interesting aerial apparatus - perfect for those budding aerialists wanting to try something new!
⚡️Handbalancing, Stretch and Strength 6:30-8pm. This is a great one to keep your body moving through the holidays, or even to step your toe into circus for the first time! Handstand drills, conditioning and flexibility training, you can’t go wrong!

Reimagined for inside the beautiful Bowery Theatre right here in the west, Momentum is an immersive circus show performed by the Women’s Circus Inclusive Ensemble.
