Handstand-a-Thon

When: 1–2pm,  Sunday 28 June 2026, doors open from 12:30pm
Where: Women’s Circus Drill Hall, Footscray

As part of our $35,000 for 35 Years campaign, we’re running a Handstand-a-Thon — one hour of non-stop handstands to raise funds and celebrate 35 years of Women’s Circus.

Our goal is simple: as a group, we will keep a continuous collective handstand going for the entire hour. You don’t need to hold one the whole time — we’ll rotate through, relay-style, so the handstands never stop.

Our definition of “handstand” is broad and accessible to everyone. Anything goes — including handstands against the wall, with a spot, headstands, partner acro where you are upside down, handstand drills lying on the ground — be creative and do what works for your body. Here is a list of suggestions so you can find something that works for you, whatever your level:

Raise funds for our campaign

Set up an individual or team CrowdRaiser page through our Keep Our Circus Strong fundraiser and ask your friends, family, and workmates to sponsor you. Every dollar raised goes directly towards funding the 35 Year Big Show and keeping our programs accessible.

Thanks to The Phil Taylor Foundation, every donation is matched dollar-for-dollar up to $35,000, so your sponsors’ contributions go twice as far.

How to participate

There are two ways to take part:

Join us in person
Come to the Handstand-a-Thon at Women’s Circus on Sunday 28 June. Doors open at 12:30pm, handstands kick off at 1pm. Bring a plate to share — we’ll hang out together afterwards. We’ll have the heater on in the community room but bring warm clothes for the main space.

The in-person event is open to all Women’s Circus members and trainers of marginalised genders.

Join from anywhere
Can’t be there on the day? You can still take part. Film yourself doing your handstand/s, set your own goal, tag us on socials and share it with your sponsors.

Online participation is open to anyone connected to our community — members, family, friends, and supporters.

Handstands not your thing?

You can still be part of it — find a friend’s CrowdRaiser page and donate to cheer them on, or come along on the day to support the community. You can also share our Keep Our Circus Strong fundraiser to help spread the word.
