FAQs

Where are classes?
Located next to Whitten Oval and near West Footscray station, The Drill Hall has been the home of Women’s Circus since 2006. The training center is equipped with specialised circus gear including trapezes, climbing ropes and aerial equipment. It can accommodate groups of up to 50 participants and is fully accessible. Features include on-site parking, community kitchen, Wi-Fi and a community room.

How old do I need to be to train?
Our adult classes are designed for anyone over 18 years old. We encourage you to attend our classes no matter your age or fitness level. Many Women’s Circus members are in their 20’s and 30’s but we have some students in their 50’s and beyond! If you have concerns about your fitness or have specific needs please talk to us so we can help you work out what class is best for you.

What do I need to wear?
Wear comfortable clothing you can move in and go upside down in. You may also want to bring deodorant and a hand towel, especially in summer. For Aerial workshops, it is a good idea to wear tights that cover the back of your knees, and to bring a t-shirt.

What do I bring?
We encourage you to bring a water bottle, something light to snack on and to wear layers (the temperature in our space is pretty variable!). There is a kitchen in the building with a fridge. You can use it to store water, food and drinks.

What if I’m injured or unwell?
We encourage you to look after yourself. If you are working with an injury please let your teacher know but note that you are solely responsible for looking after yourself whilst moving by modifying movements, resting if you need to or opting out of certain moves or classes altogether.

If you feel unwell with any Covid-19 symptoms (even the mildest symptoms) and have registered for an in-person class stay home, do a RAT test and refrain from attending class while you’re symptomatic.

What if  I’m pregnant?
Please let us know at the start of the course, or as soon as you know and make sure you have your medical practitioner’s clearance to exercise. We cannot offer medical advice. You are solely responsible for getting professional advice and information about what you can and can’t do at each stage of pregnancy and for looking after yourself whilst moving by modifying movements, resting if you need to or opting out of certain moves or classes altogether.

What if I’m having trouble paying?
Please talk to us if you are having trouble paying. We may be able to arrange a payment plan or qualify for a subsidised spot.

Do I need to become a member of Women’s Circus?
To participate in our adult term program, you must be a member of Women’s Circus. Membership is due yearly (every 365 days).
Kids classes, teen classes, short courses, intensives, and masterclasses do not require membership.
For more information on the benefits of membership, check out our membership page.

Women’s Circus values each member’s development, both creatively and personally, and recognises that self-identity may change over time. As such, once members have taken out membership, they will continue to be able to access the services and support of Women’s Circus, irrespective of their gender.  We invite you to read through our Gender Inclusion Policy for more information.
